TC45
In the guise of the TC45 is a new generation of radio modules launched onto the market that facilitate the simple and inexpensive development of new applications, primarily in the M2M market segment (machine-to-machine). Thanks to the use of the widely distributed Java™ platform J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition), the module tasks are not restricted to communication between machines only, but can also control functions of the application.
The virtual machine (VM) integrated into the TC45 with Java as the programming language gives the application "intrinsic intelligence" that the module can use to evaluate data and execute commands. This means that data can be exchanged via up to nine freely programmable I/O pins. The extremely compact and lightweight TC45, which functions with GSM and GPRS networks, is an ideal module for security systems or for the remote reading of electricity meters, to name just two examples. However, the TC45 can also be found in conventional M2M applications such as fleet management and tracking systems, vending machines, point-of-sales applications, and GSM gateways.
By using components already integrated into the module, such as memory, controller and TCP/IP, you can save more than just material costs; the amount of integration and testing work required for hardware and software is also reduced. This means that products reach the marketplace more quickly and more cost-effectively. Included on the installation CD is a Java library with example routines for GSM/GPRS communication, which the developer can use to program his own applications easily. For simple and fast remote maintenance, software updates can be downloaded via the air interface (OTA). Another advantage is that R&TTE and GCF approvals have already been obtained for the TC45.
The most important features of the TC45 include:
- GSM dual band (900/1800 MHz) and GPRS class 8
- J2ME support with IMP 1.0
- TCP/IP support for the Internet
- Up to nine freely programmable GPIOs
- Remote transmission of software updates via OTA (Over The Air)
- 300 kB flash memory
